In today’s Fjaloretv spotlight, we go behind-the-channel with Trina Duhra. Since beginning her YouTube channel in 2012, Trina has been creating vlogs to showcase make-up tips and techniques, share the latest beauty trends, provide product reviews, and much more! As she continues to consistently create high-quality content for make-up enthusiasts, we had a chat about her journey with beauty vlogging on YouTube:
Great to have you join us! Can you tell us a bit about how you got started with beauty vlogging?
Thanks for having me! After going to school for Makeup Artistry, I found a lot of friends and family asking me how to do a smokey eye or how to apply false lashes and etc. At the time, I was really into watching beauty tutorials on YouTube and so I thought, “Hey, I can do this too!” I then started making videos with all of my tips and techniques to share with others.
Ever since you’ve started a YouTube beauty channel, what have you enjoyed the most?
I love interacting with the viewers the most! After uploading a new video my favorite thing to do is get onto my computer or phone and start chatting with everyone. I also love filming reviews because it’s a chance for me to try out new products! I’ve found so many amazing products that I use in my current beauty routine that I may not have discovered if not for my YouTube channel.
When creating beauty vlogs, where do you find your make-up inspiration from?
I look to current beauty trends and go from there. There’s always a new makeup technique or popular trend that people are raving about so I try to break down what all the rage is about in a video or makeup tutorial. I also love looking at what celebrity makeup artists are creating for the runway or red carpet and finding easy ways to recreate some of those looks.
Can you tell us a bit about what goes into the creation of your YouTube videos?
To film I use a DSLR and a really simple lighting system. In fact, I made two basic light stands from IKEA work up until just recently when I invested in a ring light. It helps to light my face up and now I continue to use the IKEA lights to brighten up my room. I also use Final Cut Pro X to edit. With that said, as much as the right gear helps, it means nothing if you don’t have great content. Be yourself and that will shine brighter than any lights you have.
As a beauty vlogger, what has worked well for you in terms of subscriber growth?
Good content and regular uploads. As soon as I announced to my viewers that they could expect a new video from me on the same day every week, that’s when I started to see real growth. I also try to be myself in all of my videos so that viewers can identify with me. I’m not perfect! Nobody is and I think that’s what people love about YouTube.
What’s been your favorite way to engage with your YouTube channel’s audience?
I’m still at a level that I read and respond to almost every single comment I get, and my viewers recognize that. I receive countless messages letting me know how appreciative they are that I respond and answer their questions. It doesn’t stop at YouTube. I make every effort to respond and interact on all of my social media platforms.
Many make-up artists have an interest in starting their own YouTube channel, especially with it being an effective way to showcase their work. What advice would you give to them?
DO IT! I always encourage other makeup artists to start a channel. It’s the best way to showcase your work and get your message across. It’s free advertising and with videos it’s a chance to show a bit of your personality in addition to your skills as a makeup artist. With that said, treat it like a job! Like anything, it requires a lot of work and is a public representation of you.
If you could say anything to your audience, what would it be?
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love you guys and I would not be where I am today or continuing to make videos without all of you. I’d love to hear from you, so if you’re someone that watches my videos or creeps me on Instagram and doesn’t comment, comment! Let’s be friends! 🙂 xo Trina
