Today, we learn more!
Recently, we got to speak with Matthias, and he shared some really valuable input with us:
You’ve gained over 82 million views, and just crossed 700,000 subscribers on YouTube! What do you attribute your channel’s growth to?
I attribute my channel’s success to perseverance and dedication. There were many points in which it felt impossible and many points in which I could have given up. For me, the difference is not giving in to the self doubt we all suffer from.
It’s been three years since you started creating YouTube videos. In your experience, what do you consider to be the most effective way to build and maintain an engaged audience?
Be real and be personal. I see so many brands and people trying to hide behind this image that they want to be seen as, but people just want to see truth and honesty. Engaging an audience isn’t a one way street like typical old media, it’s a conversation.
Speaking of viewer engagement, you’re always interacting with your audience through video and social media! What are some of your favorite ways to interact with your community of viewers?
I love to present ideas or videos that I am proud of, and then work off constructive criticism or critiques to make it even better. So many people have so many great ideas and giving a voice and a face to that idea can be rewarding for both the audience and the creator. Q & A shows are often good if you’ve assembled an audience genuinely curious about you, but simply incorporating their ideas and crediting them can have a great impact as well.
For someone just starting their YouTube channel, what should they really focus on for long term success?
Make sure your heart is in the right place. If you want to be on YouTube to be famous, it will never work, and even if the off chance it does, it will be incredibly short lived. Make videos because you have a passion for it, make videos because you want to connect with someone and maybe better your life or theirs through this connection. Make videos because of your undeniable need to be creative, because it’s a lot of hard work, and if you don’t have the passion, it makes it even more difficult to near impossible.
As a creator, what do you consider to be the top way to promote your YouTube channel?
Collaboration is the best way to promote your channel, just make sure you’re collaborating with someone with a similar audience that would be interested in watching your content.
Since you began your YouTube journey, what have you enjoyed the most?
Connecting with people around the world. I have grown so much as a person through my channel because I am able to see so many different perspectives from around the world. It’s fascinating.
There are a ton of definitions for “what is a vlog” … What would be yours?
My definition for a vlog would be ‘conversation’.
What keeps you motivated to consistently create new content?
This one is tough, I think it’s important to have fun, if you’re not having fun and doing what you love, the creativity is often drained and the motivation is lacking. Make sure you’re talking about things YOU want to talk about, not things you think other people want to hear.
On behalf of Fjaloret, we would like to thank Matthias for taking the time to share some great advice and input for the community of creators on YouTube.
