Interested in getting music for your YouTube videos and vlogs? Well, there’s this cool website called Jukedeck.com that composes customized and unique music for you!
As you know, it can be difficult finding royalty free music for YouTube videos to avoid any copyright problems, especially when timing and rhythm are important factors. Recently, we came across something awesome called Jukedeck. It’s a very cool platform that automatically creates unique soundtracks which can be used for your channel without having to worry about any copyright flags. What we really like about Jukedeck is that the music creation process literally takes seconds, and can be customized based on your preferences.
We definitely wanted to learn more. Therefore, we spoke with Lydia Gregory from the Jukedeck team to discuss the platform, and how creators can use it to get music for YouTube videos.
Great to have you join us! Jukedeck is definitely a unique tool for music composition. Can you tell us a bit about what led to its creation?
Jukedeck was born out of a love of music, a love of tech, and the idea of using both to enable people to be creative. Our founder, Ed Rex, is a composer and he became fascinated by the idea of teaching a computer to write music. He taught himself how to code and wrote a prototype – a piece of software that could write and perform music all on its own.
He saw that it was really difficult for video creators to source and edit music: it takes ages to find a track with the right mood and length from stock audio sites, well-known tracks are expensive to use, and copyright and royalty restrictions are confusing. Unique music is even harder to find and, if you want to be involved in the creative process, you either have to hire a composer or be able to write your own music! Perhaps Jukedeck could fix this?
After raising funding, Ed built a team of like-minded musical engineers and the pace of developing Jukedeck rapidly increased. We launched Jukedeck to the public at TechCrunch Disrupt in December 2015 and went on to win their Startup Battlefield competition. Jukedeck is now available to be used by everyone – check it out at Jukedeck.com.
For video creators interested in adding music to their content, can you explain how Jukedeck works?
You come to Jukedeck and choose the length that the soundtrack should be, so that it’s just the right length for your video, as well as selecting a style, mood, and other features. Our system then gets to work and, a few seconds later, you can download a completely new and unique track. You can even go back and edit the track once you have created it if there are bits that you want to tweak. We’re also working on loads more features that are going to make it easier than ever to get the perfect soundtrack.
In terms of how the tech works, we use machine learning to train a system that understands the rules of music theory and can compose original music, note by note, just like a composer would. The notes produced are then passed through a system we’ve built which automatically applies music production to a professional standard.
What do you consider to be the greatest benefit of using Jukedeck as a vlogger or video creator?
Beyond making it easier and much more affordable to get unique, royalty-free music, I think that the greatest benefit of using Jukedeck is that vloggers and video creators can have creative input into their soundtracks. Getting the music right really enhances the emotion and story of a video, so we want to give creators a tool that lets them craft the music they want really quickly. Ultimately, we want video creators and vloggers to have the same creative autonomy over soundtracks as they do over the video content itself!
Many YouTube creators have shared positive feedback about Jukedeck. What do you attribute that to?
We really are grateful to all of our users who have been so positive, it has been a great feeling for the team at Jukedeck to have such an enthusiastic response to something we work hard on and love! In terms of why people have been so positive, I’d like to think Jukedeck provides a service that makes YouTubers lives easier and more creative…and there isn’t another service like it!
We love seeing the videos that users create featuring Jukedeck music – there’s just so many creative people with passion topics out there, we never know what we’re going to see next. We normally end up watching a selection of recent videos over drinks on a Friday evening. So if you make a video, let us know!
Can you tell us if there’s any restrictions or rules for vloggers and video creators using the tracks created by Jukedeck?
For individual vloggers and video creators using our free licence, you are free to use the track in your projects and just have to make sure that Jukedeck is credited. If you want total freedom to use a track as your own without crediting Jukedeck, then you might want to look at purchasing the copyright. We find that most YouTubers are happy to stick with the free option though and mention Jukedeck in the video description.
We always recommend that users read our licensing page at www.jukedeck.com/licensing or send a question to email@example.com if there’s anything they want to clear up.
What is the Jukedeck team looking to accomplish moving forward?
Our mission is to give everyone in the world the ability to create and experience the perfect music for what they’re doing. In terms of what we’re working on in the near future, we are busy working on more genres and features. We have recently introduced the ability to edit a track after you have created it. You can now shorten tracks, lengthen them, slow them down or speed them up and we want to bring out many more features to enable users to have creative control over all aspects of their music.
Above all, what we look to accomplish is led by our users – we write down every piece of feedback or idea that is sent to us and use this to shape what we work on. So, if there is something that would be useful for you, let us know through firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll see what we can do!
On behalf of Fjaloret, we’d like to thank Lydia for taking the time to discuss Jukedeck and how the platform can benefit creators interested in getting music for their YouTube videos.
