Every successful vlogger has their own brand that they’ve created around their vlogs and their YouTube channel. From individuals like the famous Jenna Marbles to corporations like Doritos, branding is everything.
With a recognizable logo and brand name, people will be able to immediately spot your YouTube videos and pick them out from any line-up of similar content. So how can you create and build your brand to help you grow your channel? These tips should get you started…
Choose a Great YouTube Channel Name
It all starts with your YouTube name. This is your brand name, so it should be memorable and unique. You can choose a nickname that plays on your real name, or you can make up a fun name that’s a pun associated with your industry or niche.
It’s important to choose a YouTube channel name that’s available on social media and is not being used. The last thing you want is your audience being confused with who to follow on social media.

Create a Logo For Your YouTube Channel
Next, create a logo for your YouTube channel that’s attractive, simple, and memorable. Choose colors that you like and that work well together. These should become your brand colors, and you can use them elsewhere later on when you start producing branded merchandise.
Your YouTube logo will be the common visual element that binds your vlogs, your channel, your social media profiles, and all of your other online and offline presences together. Think of Nike’s Swoosh, Delta Airlines’ blue and red triangle… We could go on and on, but you get the idea.
You don’t need words or any additional images when you see these logos. They’ve become synonymous with their brands, and we immediately know what we’re looking at when we see them. You can (and should) do the same for your vlogging channel.
Establish a Social Media Presence
Once you have a logo for your YouTube channel, it’s time to branch out to social media. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Google+ are all incredibly powerful tools that you can use to grow your YouTube fan base.
Create a profile/page (dedicated to your channel) on each of these social networks and use your channel logo as your profile picture for each one. As we mentioned a moment ago, this will tie them all together and make it easy for your viewers to identify your social media pages. You could even use your YouTube channel’s current profile picture.
Once you’ve created your pages and profiles, though, your social media job is far from over. From here, establish a set schedule for posting to each platform. Schedule one or two posts on Facebook each day and one or two interesting and fun pictures for Instagram.
To get and stay relevant on Twitter, schedule a few posts throughout the day. You don’t have to post every hour on the hour, but it’s better to tweet more rather than less. Once you start tweeting, your followers are likely to reply and retweet, too. Don’t hesitate; go ahead and respond. This is a prime opportunity to engage and interact with your audience (which we’ll get to in more depth in just a moment).
Branding Your YouTube Videos
Before we get to engaging with your audience, let’s talk about branding your YouTube videos. You can start by adding your channel logo to your video intro at the beginning of each of your vlogs. This immediately identifies your YouTube channel, but it’s not the only way to brand your videos.
Next, be sure to add links to all of your social media presences in the description of each of your YouTube videos. This specifically ties your social media profiles to your vlogs so that your viewers know where they can go for behind-the-scenes images and footage, sneak peeks at the next episode, more in-depth conversation on old episodes, and much more.
You can also brand your YouTube videos with a branded background, such as a poster or banner of your logo showcased prominently behind you. You can even wear branded merchandise like T-shirts, tank tops, hoodies, or hats. You can get these from print on demand sites that will make and ship your designs to you on all kinds of merchandise.
Search through the options on sites like Zazzle, District-Lines, Spread Shirt and CafePress and see what kinds of merchandise you can put your logo on and use for your YouTube vlogs.
Interact With your Channel’s Audience
The more your audience engages with you through your vlogs, YouTube, and social media, the more they’ll be connected with your brand. Get involved with your audience by asking questions in your YouTube videos and giving a call to action like, “Do you have any special tips or tricks for getting red wine out of the carpet? Leave your home remedies in the comments section!”
If the conversation is slow to get started in the comments, go ahead and start it yourself by asking a related question there. Then, once people start leaving responses and asking questions, keep the conversation going by replying and asking follow-up questions of your own. Do this on social media, as well as on your YouTube channel, and you’ll get more engagement all around.
To get even more people talking and interacting on your social media platforms and your YouTube channel, give personal shout-outs and mentions in your YouTube videos. Post a screen shot of the best comment of the week, or personally thank a really supportive viewer for getting so involved with your community. As they see your gratitude, more viewers will want to get even more engaged with your vlog content and community.
Build and Maintain an Engaged Viewership
On that note, build up your fan base as a community as much as possible. Create a Facebook group or Google+ community where viewers can share their thoughts and ideas on related topics. Encourage conversation in the comments. Consistently reply to questions and criticisms. In short, get involved and make your viewers feel like a community, and they’ll love identifying with your brand.
Start Giving Your YouTube Brand Exposure
Finally, don’t be afraid to advertise yourself and your personality. Wear your YouTube channel’s branded merchandise when you go out. Set up an online store through your favorite print on demand site and let your viewers buy the same shirt or hat you wear in your YouTube videos. In other words, don’t miss a chance to get your logo and brand out there!
